Call for Scores 2017

Call for Scores - Composer Spotlight

in partnership with Ensemble Cymru

THIS CALL FOR SCORES HAS NOW CLOSED.  RESULTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN EARLY FEBRUARY 2018.

Leading chamber music ensemble in Wales, Ensemble Cymru (resident ensemble at Bangor University and Venue Cymru) and Composers of Wales invite composers to apply to be a featured composer in one of three Composer Spotlights in May 2018.

Entry is open to all existing members of Composers of Wales and all new members who sign up for annual membership prior to 15 November 2017.  Members should ensure that their subscription payments are up to date.  Membership rates are available on the website: www.composersofwales.com.

Composers are invited to enter a programme of their own work or works with the entire programme being no longer than 15 minutes.  The programme will include works scored for between 1 and 3 instruments.  The instruments available will be three of the composer’s choice from the following: harp, flute, oboe, clarinet, violin, viola, cello and double bass.   [Example of an eligible programme would be Sonata for solo harp (4’), duo for clarinet and flute (5’), trio for flute, clarinet and harp (5’).]

Only exceptional entries involving four instruments will be considered.  String Quartets will not be considered.

As the call is for existing works, there is no prize money or commission fee; but Composers of Wales will reimburse reasonable travel and accommodation expenses in order for the chosen composers to attend their spotlight event.

Ensemble Cymru’s tour will be the culmination of a two-year project featuring the harp in chamber music co-curated by its principal harp and Artistic Director.  We would therefore encourage entries that include the harp.  Particular care should be taken to ensure that parts written for the harp are idiomatically written for the instrument.
