Christopher Maxim

Born in Wrexham, Christopher Maxim was Organ Scholar and a prize winner at the University of Bristol.  He completed a PhD in music at Cardiff and taught in the University Music Department and at the RWCMD before moving to London, where he has lived since 2000, working as a composer, organist, conductor, critic and teacher.

 

As a composer Chris specialises in writing for voices and for keyboard.  His publishers include Banks, Fagus, Paraclete, The Royal School of Church Music (St James Music Press in the USA), and Stainer & Bell.  Many of his pieces are also available online on Score Exchange.

 

Chris's music has been performed in music festivals and at venues such as the Usher Hall, Edinburgh; Kidderminster Town Hall; the Wanamaker Store (Macy's), Philadelphia, USA; and numerous British cathedrals/major churches.  It has been broadcast on the BBC and American radio, and recorded commercially.  There are currently three professional recordings available of his popular Toccata Nuptiale (Stainer & Bell).  Chris's hymns tunes, hymn arrangements and psalm chants are heard as far afield as Australia, Canada and the USA.
